LeipzigjunecropThis year’s 14–23 June 2013 Bachfest Leipzig, with the motto “Vita Christi” (i.e., “Life of Christ”), will draw attention to the theological, dramaturgical and compositional connections among Bach’s great choral works. This cyclical approach, adopted for the first time ever in a single festival, will break a taboo: the performance of the Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248) outside of the Christmas season.

In the months leading up to the Bachfest, Leipzig journalist and musicologist Peter Korfmacher will be discussing Bach’s “Vita Christi” compositions and their reception with a variety of guests. The first interview in German with English closed captions includes Christoph Wolff, director of the Leipzig Bach Archive, and the conductor Frieder Bernius from Stuttgart.
