Abide with Us, Bleib bei uns denn es will Abend werden, cantata, Dutch, English, French, German, Herz und Mund and Tat und Leben, Italian, Japanese, La Petite Bande, Sigiswald Kuijken, Spanish, Uitgeverij Lannoo
When the Belgian ensemble La Petite Bande (LPB) learned last year that the Flemish government was discontinuing its subsidies, founder Sigiswald Kuijken began to work with his ensemble’s leadership to formulate an original plan that would allow LPB to continue its groundbreaking work in the performance of early music. As part of this effort, Kuijken has decided to dedicate himself to the writing of a book about his personal experiences with the music of J. S. Bach and to closely examine aspects of the composer’s life that have enlightened his career.
With the title of Abide with Us, taken from the name of Bach’s cantata Bleib bei uns, denn es will Abend werden (BWV 6), the book will be published by the Flemish publisher Lannoo in Dutch, French, English, German, Spanish, Italian and Japanese in order to connect with LPB’s extensive network of international supporters. Abide with Us, as well as a special recording of Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben (BWV 147), will be offered to LPB donors during a two-year online appeal.
